UOTC Recreational Team

The University of Ottawa Tennis Club (UOTC) consists of two independent teams: the varsity team and the recreational team. Our recreational team is designed to make tennis accessible to university students of all skill levels, from beginners to approximately 4.0 NTRP (Men and Women). It is divided into two divisions to ensure a structured and engaging experience for all players.

Tryouts

  • Tryouts are held at the beginning of the Fall Semester each year. There are 2 independent tryout sessions : Varsity tryouts, and Recreational tryouts.
  • Once the varsity team is selected, its roster remains the same for the whole year, and will not be subjected to any change until the next tryouts.
  • Players who are not selected for the varsity team will be placed in the recreational team, which operates independently.
  • Tryouts schedule will be posted around the end of August. To stay updated, please follow our instagram account : @geegeestennis.
  • As of September 2025, players who wish to join the recreational team throughout the year will have to send us an email. They will then be invited to a division 2 practice in order to be evaluated. They will then be placed in either division 1 or 2.

Recreational Team - Division 1

The most competitive players in the recreational team are placed in Division 1, also known as our varsity reserve. These players continue to develop their skills and have the opportunity to improve their game in the hope of joining our varsity team after the next tryouts.

Recreational Team - Division 2

Beginner and intermediate players are placed in Division 2, where they can improve their game in a supportive and structured environment. Both divisions train together twice a week under the guidance of varsity team coaches. This ensures a high-quality training experience while fostering a strong sense of community within the club.

Practice Schedule

  • Division 1 and Division 2 : Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8 AM, at Rideau Sports Center (RSC).
  • Division 1 has an additional practice : Saturdays, 8-10 PM, at Rideau Sports Center. Division 1 players can attend all 3 practices, or the Saturday night practice only.
